Hand Forged Carbon Steel Knives;
Bowies, Hunters, Rifle Knives, Dirks, Sgian dhubs
All my knives are
completely hand made by me with traditional craftsmanship and materials. I prefer a knife that has a traditional, old
time feeling, so I use primarily carbon steel, hardwoods, brass, bone, and stag. I hand forge the blades in my shop located
in the country community of Fox Creek on the Salt River in Anderson County,
Kentucky. Careful forging results in
the highest quality blade of traditional form.
The finish ground blades are individually heat-treated with a multiple
step process, oil hardened and carefully tempered. Most blades are differentially tempered for maximum strength and
toughness. My goal is a blade that is neither
too soft nor too hard, but one that will hold an edge well and have the toughness
to survive rough use, such as disjointing large game. Blades receive a final hand rubbed finishing. Guards and handles are carefully constructed
for function and strength. Knives are
usually furnished with a dark hand rubbed patina emulating the passage of
years, but a bright finish is available on request. Sheaths furnished are hand made of heavy, vegetable tanned
leather treated with oils and wax for durability. I have confidence in the knives I make, and guarantee them
against defects in workmanship and materials.
All returns are handled individually to ensure your satisfaction. Knives will be replaced or repaired at my
discretion. I do not guarantee my
knives against normal wear, or breakage if they are thrown or used as pry
bars. Such use constitutes gross abuse
that will destroy any knife unless constructed specifically for that
purpose. Keep your knife clean and wipe
it occasionally with a drop of oil to prevent rust. You may look forward to
using your Fox Creek Forge knife with confidence and pride for many years to
come.
Sincerely,
Richard Mize
